He has a degree in Military Sciences - Infantry Specialty from the Military Academy. As a non-commissioned officer he was a Paratrooper Platoon Commander, including a mission in that capacity in the NATO force in Kosovo, and served as a military-technical advisor in military training in East Timor. As Captain, he served as a Parachute Company Commander and various staff functions. In this context he returned to Kosovo as liaison officer and did two missions as part of the Portuguese rapid reaction force of the United Nations mission in the Central African Republic, the first as deputy operations officer and the second as liaison officer and public relations.
